This robust FTP client is easy to use with a variety of features. Most notably, FileZilla includes an easy to use tabbed interface with drag and drop support. The Site Manager feature allows you to save your FTP information keeping it well organized. Advanced users will be happy to see FileZilla’s IPv6 support and transfer speed options.
FileZilla’s main strength lies in its well organized interface. The drag and drop interface allows you to easily manage remote and local files. You have the option of using FileZilla’s local explorer or drag files directly from your desktop into the remote directory and vice versa. The right-click context menu is easy to use, allowing you to choose/queue files for upload (local), download (remote) as well as to set permissions
FileZilla offers a robust Site Manager that you can use to manage frequently used connections. The Site Manager allows you to not only manage sites but you can also organize these sites with folders within the Site manger as well as create bookmarks for directories within your managed FTP connections.
For more advanced users, FileZilla allows for manual entry of FTP commands, as well as support for secure transfers and setting speed limits.
Tips for New Users
Set up the Site Manager to help manage your frequently used connections. This can save you a lot of time and effort down the line. To use the Site Manager, go to File – Site Manager (or hit CTRL-S) and click the “New Site” button to create a new site. Input the host, port and your credentials.
If you find the window too crowded, adjust which panes are displayed by clicking on “View” and then checking/unchecking panes you do not use. For example, if you do not wish to see information about your queued items and want more room to view your directories, uncheck the “Transfer queue” option in the View menu.
Areas for Improvement
In addition to its tabbed interface, FileZilla could be improved by adding an option to view all connections at once, which can be useful to users that have a need to monitor multiple simultaneous connections.
FileZilla is a full-featured FTP client that is suitable for most purposes. The application’s intuitive interface makes it easy to use for most users, while more advanced users can tweak individual connection settings to suit their needs.
